Windmill & The Wagon

There’s a certain kind of place that doesn’t just feel like a getaway—it feels like a gentle exhale. Windmill and the Wagon was exactly that for me.

From the moment we arrived, the setting did something to my nervous system. Rolling green paddocks, a quiet little dam reflecting the sky, and layers of trees wrapping the space in stillness—it’s the kind of landscape that invites you to slow right down without even trying. Mornings felt softer here. Coffee tasted better. Time stretched in the best way.

One of my favourite simple pleasures was just stepping outside and being part of the rhythm of the land. Friendly cows grazing nearby, completely unbothered by the world, and chickens wandering freely added this grounding, almost nostalgic charm. There’s something really special about those small, tactile moments—patting a cow, watching animals just be—that brings you back into the present.

And then there was the absolute highlight: the goat experience next door. If you’ve never spent time with baby goats, let me just say—it’s pure joy. Playful, curious, and impossibly cute, they have a way of pulling you out of your head and straight into the moment. It’s the kind of experience that feels wholesome in the most genuine, heart-filling way.

The wagon itself deserves its own moment.

Staying in a beautifully renovated train carriage is such a unique experience, but what makes it truly memorable is the care that’s gone into preserving its character. The old-school touches are everything—subtle nods to its history that give the space warmth and personality—paired with thoughtful renovations that make it feel cosy, comfortable, and easy to settle into. It’s that perfect balance of rustic charm and modern ease.

Afternoons looked like sitting under the trees, soaking in the view, with nothing urgent to do and nowhere else to be. Evenings felt slower, quieter—like the world had softened just for a little while.

Windmill and the Wagon isn’t just somewhere you stay—it’s somewhere you reconnect. With nature, with simplicity, and honestly, with yourself.

And those are the kinds of places you don’t forget.
